MIDO Brings Its Día de los Muertos Special Edition to the Multifort TV for the First Time, Expanding the Line With Alebrijes Motifs

Swiss watch brand MIDO is introducing the Multifort TV Big Date Día de los Muertos Special Edition – Alebrijes, a special edition inspired by Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), the traditional Mexican festival.

The new release is the latest collection in the Día de los Muertos special editions MIDO has presented since 2020. In 2026, MIDO brings this tradition to the brand's iconic Multifort TV case for the first time. Día de los Muertos is a Mexican festival in which those who have passed away are remembered and honored with joy rather than sorrow. MIDO said it drew on the symbolism and colors of this culture to create a timepiece in which memory and imagination flow into the art of time.

The central motif is the alebrije, a fantastical creature born from the imagination of Mexican artist Pedro Linares. Combining animal and dreamlike forms, alebrijes are depicted through vivid colors and inventive shapes as beings that cross the boundary between reality and imagination.

At the center of the dial sits a calavera, the decorative skull that symbolizes Día de los Muertos, surrounded by a variety of alebrije motifs arranged so that new details can be discovered all across the dial. Twelve colors of lacquer and three colors of Super-LumiNova® create distinct moods by day and by night; in the dark, luminous elements emerge, adding another dimension to the dial's design. In the big date display at 12 o'clock, the numeral "1" is designed in the shape of a bone, carrying the Day of the Dead theme through to the smallest details.

The watch comes with three strap options. The standard stainless steel bracelet emphasizes everyday versatility, while a red textured rubber strap adds a bold, striking attitude. A Milanese mesh bracelet is also included, allowing for more refined styling. The configuration lets a single timepiece take on different looks according to the wearer's taste and style.

The mechanical specifications are equally robust. The watch is equipped with the MIDO Calibre 80 automatic movement, which features a Nivachron™ balance spring and delivers a power reserve of up to 80 hours. The case is crafted in stainless steel with satin-brushed and polished finishes and measures 40 × 39.2mm. It features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, a screw-down crown and a transparent case back, and is water resistant to 10 bar (100m/330ft). MIDO highlighted the combination of artistic design and mechanical precision as the defining characteristic of the new model.

Since 2020, MIDO has released special editions celebrating Día de los Muertos, expressing in its own way the memory and heritage that endure over time. According to the brand, this edition likewise goes beyond simply preserving memories of the past, embodying a meaning of time that carries them forward in new forms through symbolism and imagination.
