Fashion and beauty platform Musinsa will officially shut down its limited-edition trading platform Soldout at the end of this year. Musinsa announced on the 1st that it will discontinue the Soldout service by December 31 and fully integrate Soldout's fashion recommerce functions into MUSINSA USED. Recommerce refers to the resale of products that have already been sold once. Musinsa said the consolidation is intended to strengthen its recommerce capabilities.
The decision is a restructuring that combines the roles of two services Musinsa has been operating into one. Soldout has centered on resale, in which individuals buy and sell limited-edition products with one another. Musinsa Used, a recommerce service Musinsa launched last August, handles transactions of secondhand fashion items.
Musinsa pointed to shifts in the limited-edition market as the reason for the change. The company explained that the volume of consumer-to-consumer (C2C) trading in limited-edition products — a model in which a platform connects individual sellers and buyers — has been declining. As a result, it decided to focus on Musinsa Used, a recommerce service that can contribute to a circular fashion ecosystem, rather than limited-edition resale.
Groundwork for the integration began last year. Musinsa absorbed SLDT, the subsidiary that operated Soldout, through a merger last year to streamline operations. Having first brought a service run by a separate entity into the headquarters organization, the company is now taking the next step of merging the service itself into Used.
The key to the new structure is transferring the capabilities Soldout has built up to Used. Musinsa plans to transplant Soldout's core assets — its expertise in operating and managing a C2C service — into Used, building a recommerce platform that extends from Korean designer fashion brands to limited-edition products from well-known international brands. Rather than disappearing, limited-edition trading will be absorbed as one segment within the secondhand trading platform. However, this is a build-out plan presented by the company, and the announcement did not include a specific integration timeline or details of the platform's features.
The company also outlined plans for staff and users. Musinsa will consider retaining employees who ran the Soldout service by moving them into its platform and recommerce organizations, based on their professional expertise and career development potential. As this remains under review rather than confirmed, the actual scale of redeployment will be determined later. The company also said it will continue to provide stable services, including customer support, for users and partners after the service ends.
Through the Used-centered recommerce consolidation, Musinsa expects to expand secondhand fashion trading beyond peer-to-peer resale of limited-edition products and to build an ecosystem that helps invigorate the "circular economy," in which resources are reused and kept in circulation.
"As Musinsa Used, the recommerce service we launched last August, has been growing rapidly, this is a strategic decision that moves beyond trading a small number of mostly limited-edition products and aligns with the circular economy trend of creating new value through secondhand goods," a Musinsa official said. "We will pursue sustainable growth by choosing and focusing on the recommerce space." While the company cited Used's growth as grounds for the decision, it did not disclose specific growth figures.
The overhaul can be read as Musinsa shifting the center of gravity of its business from a resale model concentrated on a small number of limited-edition items to a recommerce model covering a broad range of secondhand products. What has been confirmed is Soldout's closure on December 31 and the policy of integrating its functions into Used; building a recommerce platform that also covers limited-edition goods and retaining staff remain plans whose execution has yet to be seen. Musinsa operates the platforms Musinsa, 29CM and Musinsa Empty, and runs the brand Musinsa Standard as well as beauty brands Odtype and Wizzy.
